News Flash: iTunes is the suck!
[info]jackal
Today I wanted to download and watch Geordie Shore, Season 1 (the British version of Jersey Shore).

I clicked the link which opened up iTunes. It informed me I was connecting to the UK iTunes store.

I clicked the purchase episode button, logged in with my user ID, and got a popup telling me that my account was only authorized for the US Store.

So here I am, wanting to watch a TV show, with money in my hand, trying to purchase it legally, and iTunes has blocked me from doing it.

I guess that's what you get for trying to go the legal route. I guess Apple would rather you pirate things, since that's the only option remaining.

Boo iTunes Boo!

Apple is borderline EVIL - wifi sync app stolen from developer
[info]jackal
This is borderline EVIL of Apple. They stole the guy's app. Stole the App's name. Even the icon looks nearly identical. Yet he gets nothing from it. Too bad he can't sue them for intellectual theft!

iCloud = lala.com but not as good and 5 years too late.
[info]jackal
Why are people so happy about iCloud? Apple can now do what lala.com could do 5 years ago. You know lala.com - that website that stored all your music online, and let you stream it from anywhere.

The company that Apple BOUGHT and shut down because it was better than iTunes!

Plus lala.com was WAY BETTER.

1- lala.com could be accessed from any web browser. With iTunes you have to install iTunes bloatware crap software.

2- lala.com had the option for a "streaming only" version of a song to purchase. Which meant you couldn't download it, but you could listen to it from your online library whenever and from whereever you wanted. Something iTunes STILL does not offer today.

3- lala.com allowed you to stream your entire Libray online to any computer and that was 5 years ago.

GET A BEAR EXTENDER!
[info]jackal
Because the built in wifi (known as Apple's Airport card) is so extremely terrible, I decided to look for a thirdparty wifi manufacturer that works with Apple products.

I found the "Bear Extender". I just got it today.

Before installing the Bear Extender I recorded my wifi signal strength at 25%.

After installing the Bear Extender I recorded my wifi signal strength at over 80%.

Showing that the Apple Airport card in MacBook Pro's really does suck.

And I highly recommend this product. Easy to install and setup.

Update My bandwidth nearly doubled when switching from the Apple product "Airport card" to the Bear Extender. Here's the screenshots to prove it.

Apple Store Can't Download Software
[info]jackal
The year is 2011 and you STILL can not purchase iLife online and download the software to your computer.

Instead they SNAIL MAIL you the physical discs.

hhahahaha! Whoever said Apple was cutting edge? hahahaah!

MacOSX Wireless IS BROKEN (continued)
[info]jackal
I'm connected to a remote basestation on my iPhone and iPad, and have been using that basestation on my MacBook Pro.... but then it stopped working.

I've been reading online and this seems to be some sort of problem with the macbook pro's that apple has still yet to acknowledge. [Reference 1] [Reference 2]

I've tried all the suggested fixes for it. Reset the PRAM. Disabled ipv6. Installed little Snitch (why?). Yet none of those did anything to help the problem.

Simply put, I see the basestation, but can not create a connection to it with my MacBook Pro running MacOSX 10.6.6.

It's frustrating to know that I can reboot into Windows on my Mac and it connects under Windows. It connects with my iPhone. It connects with my iPad. The only place where it does _not_ connect is my MacBook Pro running MacOS X.....

Apple iPad Not Charging Via USB For Some Users
[info]jackal
I have personally experienced this myself.

After plugging my USB cable into my iPad and connecting it to my laptop (which was connected to the wall power supply) I found the iPad DID NOT CHARGE!

Nice job Apple. Complete FAIL!

The sad truth about MacOSX wireless
[info]jackal
The sad truth about MacOSX wireless is that IT SUCKS. It always has been extremely unstable and unreliable and now I have consistent proof that Windows wireless is much stronger than MacOSX.

I used THE EXACT SAME PIECE OF HARDWARE FOR THIS TEST - my Mac Book Pro.

First booted into MacOSX. And repeatedly tried to connect to an open 802.11g base station and was consistently unable to connect. This is an open basestation with no passwords, that I had previously been using under MacOSX.

Then I rebooted into Windows XP and connected directly on first attempt and am currently using that connection.

So given IDENTICAL HARDWARE (the exact same machine), Windows was able to connect and make a reliable usable link. Meanwhile MacOSX was unable to connect AT ALL.

Proving yet again, that the MaxOSX Operating System has extremely poor (and in this case unusable) wireless support.

...still no flash on the ipad
[info]jackal
The date is Jan 2nd, 2011, and there's _still_ no flash for the ipad.... after all this time.

That means no Hulu on the ipad... nor anything else that uses flash.

Slow... slow... Apple.

So next time you are in an Apple store, make sure you put all the iPads on hulu.com.

Missing calendar in menu bar.
[info]jackal
Sometimes it's the most simple things that annoy me about MacOSX.

Today - it's the lack of a calendar when you click on the date/time in the menu bar.

Every other desktop has a date calendar in the menu bar EXCEPT MacOSX.

Fail.
